Tracing programme

Lithuanian Red Cross tracing department searching for lost relatives (brothers, sisters, parents, children) of lithuanian people abroad and foreigner's relatives in Lithuania.  Tracing is done via central agencies of International Red Cross Committee in Switzerland and Germany.

Main criteria for tracing cases in Lithuanian Red Cross:

• search for persons lost during world war II or in the times of natural disasters,
• Red Cross society mediates passing letters of refugees to their families,
• Society is searching for documents concerning persons who were kept as prisoners during world war II.

During the period of 2004 more than 827 persons address Lithuanian Red Cross with tracing requests. 291 of them were successful. In 2003 more than  500 request were handled, 176 of them were successful.

About Lithuanian Red Cross Youth

Lithuanian Red Cross Youth is part of Lithuanian Red Cross Society uniting young volunteers in whole country, working according fundamental principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. LRCY carries out social, educational, preventive and other programes with the aim to prevent sufferings and preserve human dignity.  LiRC uniting more than 3000 young members and 500 volunteers in the whole country. The age of young people described as youth members is from 13 till 29 yers (according the National youth policy). There are more than 30 youth groups out in the country.

All youth activities are coordinated by National Youth board. Members of the board are elected every tho years during Youth general assembly. The board consist of 7 members and 2 substitutes (with no voting right).

Youth work is administrated by the youth department situated at LiRC headquarters. he work is done by full time paid person - youth director. The youth directors implements the decissions of the youth board.

> Social help fot the vulnerable people
> First aid training
> Prevention activities at schools
> Training of volunteers
> fundraising
> dissemination of Red Cross Principles
> International cooperation and joint international projects
> Disaster preparedness. Young people participate in DP teams
